How did studying in GIS help you in your career?
GIS has always had a multi-cultural mix of students, and interacting with students of different nationalities and cultures at such an early stage was particularly useful to me in developing relationships with and understanding non-Asian clients at a UK international law firm. This is important since economies around the world are now very much interconnected and interdependent with one another. The teachers in GIS also inspire out-of-box thinking and creativity, which is absolutely fundamental in the legal world where clients expect you to advise on legal issues commercially, professionally and creatively.
What is your best memory in GIS?
The teachers! They are all warm, approachable, enthusiastic and patient. I remember countless times during my GIS days where any teachers I approach would take time out of their way-too-busy schedules to listen to any problems or concerns I have. I remember one teacher in particular who gave me a piece of advice that has stuck with me till this very day -“do not be discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” I learnt subsequently that this quote (most parts of it anyway) was from Thomas Edison.
