After the awards were bestowed, a delicious buffet dinner followed to all in attendance.
The graduation ceremony took place with many cheers and claps from fellow students. We started a new tradition recently and it was a scene where the earliest photos the school has on the graduands were used as a backdrop when they receive their scrolls on stage! It drew so much laughter from the crowd and was such a great topic of conversation. It was wonderful to see the graduands’ photos when they joined GIS and how they have now ‘developed’ into young adults.
After receiving their scrolls, the graduands were seen leaving the stage and marking their transition into GIS Alumni. I was there waiting to present them with an Alumni gift bag and welcome them into the growing GIS Alumni community. Although they are heading to different parts of the world, there will always be one thing in common among them, and that is their time in GIS. Being a part of the GIS Alumni community will unite them regardless of their location.
The evening continued with our guest speaker, Mr. Taranjeet Singh, an alumnus from the Class of 1984. Taranjeet’s inspirational speech included asking the students to be true to themselves and be passionate in what they do in order to be successful in life. What an honour it was to have him with us this evening. Coincidentally, he’s also our featured alumnus of the month. Read here.
The graduation ceremony concluded with a closing speech by Mr. Stuart Walker, our Principal, wishing the Class of 2014 great success wherever they will be heading to. He also took the opportunity to thank Mr. Wilson for his hard work as this year marks Mr. Wilson’s 9th year at GIS and also his final year with the school. Having been the Head of Secondary for the past 7 years, Mr. Wilson has witnessed hundreds of students graduate from GIS and the numerous change of improvement to the school. We wish him all the best!
