2nd Annual Alumni Gathering in London – 24 January 2014

On 24th January 2014, we were able to hold the second Annual Alumni Gathering in London. This year the event attracted many more ex students. Encouragingly we saw many more alumni from the earlier years. This included a number of students from the Classes of 1985 and 1986 as well as 1989. Several of them had travelled considerable distances to meet with their friends, many of whom had not been in contact for up to 20 years.

We also had the honour to be joined by David Nicklin who left GIS in 1957. David had some of his memories included in the 60th Anniversary book and it was great to meet him in person. Also present was Mr. Clive Watkins. He holds the distinct honour of being student number 2 at GIS – only because his brother was older. Clive’s mother, Sally Watkins was the founder of GIS and part of the reason for the foundation was to teach her own children. Clive gave a wonderful speech about his mother and reminisced about life in Malaysia in the 1950s.

The Alumni Association is a tremendous opportunity for ex students of GIS to gather together to renew old acquaintances and to form new friendships. This was certainly the case on the Friday evening. Many also made a commitment to return to the school and talk with and mentor current students.
