We’re proud to share the news that GIS Alumna Kathryn Ghazali has been hard at work creating positive changes back on home turf. As a committee member of the The Mont Kiara Community Society (MKCS), Kathryn is excited to share the recent news that the society has been awarded Grade A in the MKCS-DBKL Cleanliness Blueprint (Phase 5) – scoring 88% – the highest score since the programme’s beginning. This is a fantastic achievement for MKCS, moving the organisation one step closer to its key objective, to make the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur the most beautiful city in the world by 2020.
Kathryn is no stranger to community mobilisation, not only is she involved in the DBKL Cleanliness Blueprint initiative with MKCS, she is also a key member of Mont Kiara’s Residents Association, where she fulfils the roles of Under Secretary and Head of Events and Communications. There is no doubt that Kathryn is fully committed to making Mont Kiara a more beautiful and greener place to live for all. Her recent work has also come full circle, with Kathryn coming back to GIS to coordinate an exciting collaboration with the school’s Art Department and several community partners: Malaysian Nature Society; UEM Sunrise; Ireka, LITRAK and Alam Flora. This exciting project will see GIS create a culturally inspired design to wrap around the huge concrete pillars on Jln Desa Kiara (under the Penchala Link).
An Alumni from our class of 1980, Kathryn went on to study a BA in Organisational Behaviour at Lancaster University – eventually moving into psychology and the metatheory of pedagogy. When not helping shape her community, Kathryn works as Director of Business Development, Agriculture and Rural Technology at IoT Integrator where she conceives and implements strategy for start-up organisations.
We at GIS Alumni Relations Office are truly proud of what Kathryn is doing to make positive and lasting changes for the Mont Kiara community, ensuring that our local area is a green and beautiful place to live for future generations. If you’re interested in speaking to Kathryn about getting her support on your own green projects, please contact us at alumni@gardenschool.edu.my and we will put you in touch.
