Y12 Enterprise Group with GIS Alumni!

Our Year 12 Enterprise Group were fortunate to be joined recently by two alumni, who generously gave up their time to share their career tips, experiences of working life and general life lessons in an online session, organised by secondary teacher, Mrs Anna Berney.

Mrs Berney said: ‘This was such an enriching experience for our students in the Year 12 Enterprise group to listen to GIS Alumni. The knowledge and professional insite of the “changing nature of entrepreneurship” that both Sam and Jason provided gave a real life context for our students. Sam and Jason were so generous with their time and our students really appreciated the fact that their questions were taken seriously and answered so thoroughly. Both talks have re-energised the students and will help them to take their own social enterprise projects to the next level. I look forward to working with Sam, Jason and other alumni again in the future.’

Alumni Sam Barton, Class of 2010

Product & CX Manager at Speedlancer and Host of Talk of Today

Shared his view about – Exploring developments in the world and what they could mean for the future:

‘I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to talk about social enterprise and global citizenship with the group of Yr 12s. I’m thrilled they get to learn about such things while still in school. They were curious and thoughtful in their questions. Looking forward to hearing about the adventures these budding entrepreneurs go on!’

Alumni Jason Yoong, Class of 2006

Sr. Program Lead & Fireside Chats at Amazon – Seattle, US

Shared his view about – The changing face of entrepreneurship in times of Covid19:

‘It was energizing for me to see the dynamism and inquisitive minds of Ms. Anna Berney’s GIS Enterprise Y12 Class. I was impressed with the breadth of student questions, ranging from the impact of COVID-19 on startups, tactics to engage early customers for product launches, the future of work, and career lessons (thus far). It makes me a proud Alumnus to see GIS build a curriculum that fosters a pioneering spirit through entrepreneurship. I look forward to future sessions. Further, to stay updated on what I am interested in, I started a newsletter called Curious Expeditions that explores the mental models of work, business, and peculiar people via fireside chats, read here: https://curiousexpeditions.substack.com/’
