Organised by Head of Primary at GIS, Nicola Nelson, ‘The Women in Leadership’ podcast series celebrates some of the inspirational women from within our GIS community.
Most recently, we had the privilege of listening to Alumni, Malisse Tan (Class ‘05), founder of BOBBLE, an eco-organic range of products for women, talking about her vision to empower women through education about menstrual well-being, whilst offering them access to safer alternatives.
Malisse’s career saw her start out as a Sales Consultant, aged 22, at global Media Monitoring & Social Listening Platform, Meltwater, being promoted quickly to Managing Director for Malaysia and then Regional Director for Business Strategy. Subsequently, she dabbled in founding a couple of other tech startups which did not work out, but she failed forward with good lessons learned. Most recently, she was the Chief Strategy Officer for a boutique German innovation agency, the Academy for Corporate Entrepreneurship, where she oversaw business development and partnerships, working with corporates in defining and delivering their innovation goals.
Outside of her work, Malisse is a mother to 2 children, is 3 years in remission from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer and is on the Board of Advisors for Lean In Malaysia.
Malisse shared both her inspiring career journey and personal experiences with us. Listen to it here, if you haven’t already.

‘The Women in Leadership group who met to listen to Malisse’s inspiring story were blown away by the resilience, wisdom and strength that Malisse has shown whilst facing, and overcoming considerable challenges in both her personal and professional life. At the end of the session, I felt incredibly honoured to have been able to learn from Malisse about her experiences. The feedback from the rest of our group was equally powerful: Malisse is a very inspirational person who has something to teach all of us, especially at a time when we are facing many new and unknown challenges in our lives. I urge everyone to listen to her podcast recording when we release it in a couple of weeks.’

‘I was humbled to have over 40 women join this session to hear what I had to say. Sometimes, speaking out loud about the vulnerabilities and challenges that one personally goes through isn’t the easiest thing, but I’m glad I had this opportunity to share through this platform! I hope that sharing my raw stories shed some clarity, hope and acted as a reminder that we are not alone, no matter what kind of dark tunnels we are facing.’
