GIS Oxbridge CCA – Law Mentoring Sessions!

At GIS, we know success beyond school and admission into competitive higher education programmes isn’t just about excellent grades. That’s why we don’t just focus on academics and  ensure that every student can achieve success beyond the classroom. In addition to outstanding teaching and learning, we offer subject electives linked to each student’s talents and passions; we ensure every GIS graduate does stand out from the crowd with our distinctive Higher Education Guidance Programmes. Our Oxbridge CCA focuses on interview preparation, admissions test practice, in-depth discussions of college choices, and writing personal statements.

Mrs Liza  Phillips

GIS – Higher Education Advisor/University Guidance Counsellor

“Our aspiring law applicants are supported by the Law Mentoring CCA. This term, students have benefitted from unparalleled insights from GIS Alum. Sam Mcintosh and Ganesan Nethi enlightened us into their lives as barristers, Krishna Mulleth on law degrees, and Shalini Ratnarajah into her role as a media in-house counsel. A GIS parent, Andrew Mercer (Director of Legal Affairs at AFC) hosted mock interviews. Honing their logic and critical acuity means they can confidently approach imminent law interviews. Combined, our CCAs allow every student to find their passions, prepare applications with confidence and, ultimately, successfully apply to the courses and universities that suit them best.”

Mr Andrew Mercer (GIS Parent)

General Counsel & Director of Legal Affairs AFC (since April 2020)

(Previous roles: Deputy Director of Legal Affairs and Head of Sports Legal Services, Disciplinary and Governance)

“It was a great pleasure to meet and exchange ideas with the GIS students during the Oxbridge mock interviews. I was impressed with their genuine passion for legal, political and social topics, and I am confident that these practice sessions will stand them in good stead for the university application process.”

“Speaking with the next generation of students interested in law was a humbling experience. The level and quality of analysis from the students was inspiring, and I have no doubt that they will add value in whichever field they choose. If that field is law then the profession will be lucky to have them.”
