Hi Clarence! Can you share with us your experiences at university so far?

At my university, I get frequent opportunities to work with real-life companies to figure out innovative solutions to complex problems. I am always working with people from different nationalities and backgrounds in a variety of different groups.

University life is always filled with exciting events as well. From networking events to nights out clubbing, that there is never a dull night in university! There are also plenty of clubs and societies in university that you can join, no matter what your interests are. Worried you won’t be able to find a society that suits you? That’s no problem, because you can always create your own club with a group of like-minded people.

How did GIS prepare you for university life?

GIS enabled me to think with a global viewpoint. The diverse cultures present at GIS really gave me a stepping-stone to university and work life, in the sense that I am confident in interacting with people from all over the world.

The teachers and mentors at GIS also helped me develop an effective work ethic, which is a key factor to success in life. Being abroad, it is completely up to you to manage your workload and leisure activities. There are times at university where the workload piles up at an exponential rate. Therefore, learning the importance of completing my work ahead of schedule and in an efficient manner ensures that I am able to keep my life balanced. Although studying should be one of your top priorities, it is equally important to enjoy yourself at university! After all, these are your last few years before you embark on your working life.

Finally, the lifelong friends that I have made in GIS have had a significant impact on my life. Being like-minded, they are always willing to help me in whatever situation I find myself in, regardless of whether it is related to my personal life, university life or career.
