GIS Alumni Branching out to New Pastures – Ishan Siva Ramanathan

Ishan Siva Ramanathan (Class of 2018)

Reading BA Philosophy Politics and Economics at University of Oxford

Hi Ishan! Can you share with us your experiences at university so far?

I have been at Oxford for about two weeks now. It is, as expected, a fun but intense environment! Every day tends to be an intellectual challenge due to the tutorial style of learning, as well as the problem sheets. The people here come from all over the world and are very bright as well as dedicated. It is amazing to be in a university with so many like- minded individuals; this competitive environment pushes me to pursue what I am doing at the highest level I can.

How did GIS prepare you for university life?

I was at GIS from Year 8 to Year 11. Looking back, I appreciate the exposure to so many things outside of the classroom, ranging from MUN, to tennis to mindfulness. The holistic approach to education taken by GIS has been beneficial in exposing me to a wide range of interests. I appreciate the dedication of some of my teachers as well as my Head of Year, Mr Adam Robinson, who was patient and guided me through my secondary school life.
