Class of 2001 Hybrid Reunion

At GIS, we always welcome and encourage events organised by our former students— and alumni reunions are definitely a favourite! On 12th March, our Class of 2001 celebrated their 20th anniversary with a special ‘hybrid’ reunion- some alumni coming along in person, whilst others joined the fun via Zoom.

The special event reconnected alumni from all corners of the globe, as well as Principal Mr Michael Bardsley, Ms Amy Ward (Head of Secondary) and Ms Nicola Nelson (Head of Primary) in addition to members of teaching staff, past and present. It was a great afternoon where everyone enjoyed seeing their teachers, catching up with each other and sharing updates about their ‘Life after GIS’.

We’d like to thank everyone who joined the reunion – your presence made the event a real success!

Here are a few comments from some of the attendees:

Gurmeet Kaur – CEO and Founder of Hands4uu, Malaysia  & Certified Digital Marketing Specialist and Web Designer

Thanks so much for organising this reunion. It was lovely seeing familiar teachers and reconnecting with our friends. It was also great to have a hybrid reunion, with so many friends dialling in from various parts of the world. It felt like we were back together for our usual assembly sessions in the Grand Hall.”

Adli Che Morad – Head Of Financial Institutions, Affin Bank Berhad, Malaysia

Thank you to the GIS Alumni Office for arranging this reunion for our year. It was a great opportunity for us to reconnect with each other and the school. The video montage on the history of GIS was great, and it made me proud to be a part of a school that is rich in heritage and accolades. The reunion arrangement was on point and I wish the school the very best in its endeavour to enrich young minds to be future leaders in their respective fields.  I hope a reunion such as this will be part of the school’s tradition.”

Shirin Pathmanathan – Partner at M. Pathmanathan & Co. Malaysia

It was a truly memorable experience to be back on the school campus after all these years and see the vast changes. The amount of time and effort put into making the event a success was incredible.

Tishen Tham, Self-employed, London-UK

The event was very well organised – I am grateful that GIS has an active alumni relations office to ensure each year group has one of these events.  Nirmala, you and the team seemed genuinely as excited as the rest of us were to re-connect, even though you hadn’t met most of us!

Thanks for organising the event – it was a memorable one!

Jessica Thiagarasan, Home Maker, Malaysia

Some of us haven’t seen each other since leaving school and it was very special to see our classmates and hear their stories. I have not visited Garden since leaving and I was pleasantly surprised at how much it has changed. It is nice to see that the school is continuously upgrading to meet the needs of the future generation. I’m always very proud to say I graduated from Garden International School and it is this school that has prepared me well for the next steps in my life. I will cherish all my memories at Garden and will forever be grateful to the wonderful teachers.”
