What is your best memory of GIS?
Funnily enough, my best memory would be math classes with Ms Yap and Ms Mangin as there was never a dull moment in those classes! They were both tough teachers, but I can’t say any of their classes were boring. I still chuckle to myself to this day as I remember driving Ms Yap up the wall with my antics – there were plenty of days I would be sitting outside class on the bench for being a class clown! However, it’s safe to say that both teachers helped me fall in love with mathematics, which in turn led me to choose the path of accounting. Thank you both for always pushing and believing in your students!
If you were a GIS student again, what is one thing that you would change?
Be more appreciative of the opportunities that I had. Even though I did participate in a lot of what GIS has to offer, I never considered that not everyone has the same experience in other schools. I would definitely not take the wonderful opportunities at GIS for granted!
How did GIS shape who you are today?
GIS has had a bigger impact on me than I thought. I am hardworking, driven and well rounded and believe that these are all qualities shaped by GIS. During my time there, I met people from all around the world, was pushed by all my teachers to do the best I can and always offered a helping hand, no matter what I needed.
What advice would you give to current GIS students?
Take advantage of all the opportunities provided to you and appreciate how lucky you are! GIS not only helps you develop you personally, but really does prepare you for life after school. University seemed like a breeze in my first year after getting through A Levels at GIS, and making friends was easy due to my exposure to so many cultures in school. So take all that is offered to you, and enjoy every moment!
