FUNDRAISING GALA NIGHT SPRING BALL BY GIS PTF

Garden International School, Parent’s, Teacher’s and Friend’s (PTF), are pleased to announce that we are organising the first ever Fundraising Charity Ball on the 2nd of March 2024 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Malaysia.

100% of the proceeds of the profits of our Gala Night will go towards an environmental charity, The Free Tree Society and a social charity, Dignity For Children. Here is a brief background on both.

Free Tree Society

Free Tree Society Kuala (FTS) Lumpur is a Malaysian environmental Non-Governmental Organisation that aims is to educate, enrich, empower the community to raise awareness, rehabilitate, protect, rejuvenate, conserve and prevent encroachment of the last remaining sizeable green lung in the city of Kuala Lumpur of a lowland dipterocarp forest comprising of six (6) hectares with a biodiversity index of 3.4 named The Pulai Trail.

Pulai Trail conservation is an urban community conservation forest that started in 2019. Two weekly activities, Plant the Pulai and Conserve the Pulai are conducted for the community to take part in the rehabilitation of the forest landscape, maintain the forest trails and plant for better cultivation of biodiversity. To date 950+ trees, shrubs and epiphytes have been planted, a series of ecological reports have been undertaken and numerous engagements undertaken with local authorities and FRIM, Urban Biodiversity Initiative and Wild Asia.

The main goals of the project are twofold, first to protect the Pulai Trail urban forest to preserve biodiversity and second to reduce land degradation and climate change effects.

GIS Fund Raising Charity Ball seeks to support the Pulai Trail habitat.

  1. To create park elements with tree resources that will provide the tree identification, description, QR Code, maps, historical significance and folklore to the cost of RM12,000

  1. To build two (2) mini wetlands the size of 2 metres by 8 metres to the cost of RM4,000 each to create biodiversity with wildlife in the area. Six hectares of land was recently cleared next door and half a hectare was lost to a recent landslide, hence the displaced wildlife require a suitable refuge.

Dignity For Children

Dignity for Children (DFC) Foundation aims to empower underprivileged urban poor children, stateless, migrant and refugees by breaking the cycle of poverty through quality education, positively transforming their lives and that of the community around them.

They feed 1,039 daily meals to students, for most of whom is the only meal of the day. The food is from the farm they cultivate themselves on four (4) rooftop gardens and a nursery in Bentong. They also provide school transportation for 800 students as well as food

rations to their families.

DFC started 25 years ago in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur with only 20 children, today it is a learning centre with more than 2,200 children from over 30 nationalities ranging from 2-18 years old. DFC provides quality education and holistic support such as sports, mental health assessment, social emotional learning for the urban poor, B40 and marginalised children in a secure environment.
