What’s your best memory of GIS?
There are just too many – but one that definitely stands out is organizing Mufti Day with my fellow prefects! I remember fighting over writing dedications, staying late at school for DIY work and meetings, and so much fun being involved on the actual day.
Oh, and rushing for our Art final exams and coursework. We were all so stressed out but we enjoyed our time spent with each other in the art room, encouraging, pushing, and inspiring each other.
What inspires you?
Travelling inspires me, as well as the work of fellow creative.
Describe GIS in 3 words
Nurturing, Diverse, Fun!
How did GIS shape who you are today?
I met my closest and dearest friends at GIS and we still maintain a very close relationship with each other even though we’re scattered all over the world. Going to school with people from all over the globe also helped broaden my view of the world and I learned more about different cultures and ethnicities which I think has been really helpful in adult life.
I also remember very clearly that I was hesitating to take Art as an IGCSE in Year 9, but it was my then art teacher (Ms. Beasley) who encouraged me to pursue Art further as she felt that my work showed potential. As a result, I was exposed to many mediums and artists who helped to cultivate a love of creating art that has stayed with me until today. I owe Ms. Beasley a lot! ?
